Oak Hills 11th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 

Missing your weekly Thursday morning run (what with the Thanksgiving Holiday and all)?  Why not start a new or continue an old tradition and join the Findley Flyers at the Oak Hills Turkey Trot. 

Thursday, November 28, 2013 @ Oak Hills Elementary

8:30AM - 1/2 mile Kids Run (on track behind school)

9:00 AM - 5 mile Run

9:10 AM - 2 mile Run/Walk 

Organized by the Oak Hills PTO  this is a community Fun Run and a 100% charitable event with a suggested donation of $2 (donated to the Philippine Disaster Relief Efforts as voted on by the Oak HIlls students) plus 2 cans of food per runner (donated to the Beaverton Elks Pantry). 

A bunch of turkeys running and walking the streets of Oak Hills -- sounds like a great way to give thanks together, Flyers!

Where in the World is Athlone, Ireland?

The miles are adding up for the Findley Flyers!  Did you know, combined with the Dragon Dash, 798 kids ran a total of 4,575 miles around the track so far this year? That is all the way from Portland, Oregon to Athlone, Ireland.  See the Flyers in action in the October Assembly Slideshow. 

You can find your child’s name on the Findley Flyer bulletin board at school, click here for the October report, or ask how far they have run.  Another fun question to ask your child is how they feel when they run/walk around the track?  What does it feel like after they are done?  We are interested in their answer!

October Grade Level Statistics:

Kindergarten:  344.5 miles

1^st Grade:  518.75 miles

2^nd Grade:  529.75 miles

3^rd Grade:  499 miles

4^th Grade:  613 miles

5^th Grade:  447.5 miles

That’s 2,953 miles in the Month of October!

Rain Plan for Thursday mornings

If raining or there is a soggy track, we will be under the cover running, walking, skipping, and jumping our laps, so no one gets wet and we still have fun exercising together.  5 minutes running = 2 laps  5 minutes walking = 1 lap

Flyers at the KIDz Fun Run (this Sunday!)

Let's put our training laps to the test and run for a purpose!  Ask your child if they would like to participate in the KIDZ Fun Run on Saturday November 3^rd from 9:00am-11:00am at our very own Findley Track.  Net proceeds are donated to Elliott Muhs.  Check out this link to learn more:  www.kidzontherun.blogspot.com.

Findley Flyers are having some fun and clocking some miles while we are at it.  Ask you child if they know how far their grade ran last month (and check out the answer below): 

Kindergarten:   102 Miles

1st Grade:  288 Miles

2nd Grade:   352 Miles

3rd Grade: 326 Miles

4th Grade 346 Miles

5th Grade: 198 Miles (were rained out one day)

That's 1,621 Miles total!

Physical fitness promotes school success?

Ready....Set....GO!  Did you know that physical fitness may promote school success?  Check out this article for more information.  It is one of the reasons we Flyers are out there every Tuesday at lunch and Thursday at 8am.  

1,621 Miles Run in September!

Have you spotted brightly colored toe tokens on children’s backpacks, shoes, wrists, or in their pockets? Those little running shoe feet represent big accomplishments for our Findley Flyer runners and walkers! Look below at how far the children have gone in just one short month. Let’s all celebrate with our children as they continue to set goals and achieve them!

One Mile Club: 561 children 
3 Mile Club (5k): 169 children 
6 Mile Club (10k): 23 children 
10 Mile Club: 1 3rd grade child

Congratulations Flyers!! 

Dragon Dash Rescheduled for October 9th & 10th

Dragon Dash has been rescheduled to October 9th & 19th due to recent rains.  Because of this running club will be canceled on Thursdays ONLY until October 17th. (No morning club on Oct. 3rd and 10th). On Thursday, October 17th, we will resume the morning (8:00am) Running/Walking Club.

First Week = 500+ Findley Flyers

What a fun first week! We had over 500 children run with us! Half of those kids already earned a wristband which means they ran a mile. We could tell by the smiles on their faces, our kids had a blast. The parents did too. The energy is contagious out there!
