Run to Sochi 2014

The Findley Flyers continue to run strong through the winter months.  The Flyers have run a total of 6,548 miles.  That’s all the way to a mountain in Sochi, Russia!  

The kids are working hard and reaching their goals!  18 children have run 26.2 miles to earn their marathon medal with many more coming up at the 20 mile mark.  Marathon medals are handed out during Friday morning announcements, pictures are taken, and then posted to the Findley Flyer Marathon Club.  To find out how far your child has run, look for your child’s name on the website by looking at the mileage clubs.  Mileage clubs range from 1 mile all the way to 35 miles so far!

You can find us out there Tuesdays at lunch and Thursdays before school at 8am.  We are there rain or shine on Thursday mornings and run under the cover if it is too wet.  We are all having a lot of fun, getting some fresh air, and moving our bodies.  Join us for some Findley Flyer fun!

Findley Flyers CANCELED 2/6/14

It's cold out there Findley Flyers! Tomorrow, Thursday, February 6th Findley Flyers will be CANCELED in the morning. Sleep in, stay warm, and we will see you on the track next week!

2014 is off and running!

The Flyers are back on the track in 2014, thanks to our community support.  Some of the reasons why what Findley Flyer runners, walkers, parents, teachers, staff & volunteers do matters:

• Teachers are saying:  Children are always drawing pictures and writing stories about the running club.
• Parents are saying:  Running club is one of my child's favorite thing to do at school.  I never pictured my child as a runner but they absolutely love it.
• Volunteers are saying:  This is my favorite volunteer activity, I'm having so much fun!
• Kids are saying:  I never thought I could run ____13 miles, 20 miles, 26 miles and so on.  

Their smiles really say it all as they count up their miles, show us their tokens, and round the corners of the track.

Volunteering for the Findley Flyers is so appreciated and makes a huge difference for the children.

Missing your weekly Thursday morning run (what with the Thanksgiving Holiday and all)?  Why not start a new or continue an old tradition and join the Findley Flyers at the Oak Hills Turkey Trot. 

Thursday, November 28, 2013 @ Oak Hills Elementary

8:30AM - 1/2 mile Kids Run (on track behind school)

9:00 AM - 5 mile Run

9:10 AM - 2 mile Run/Walk 

Organized by the Oak Hills PTO  this is a community Fun Run and a 100% charitable event with a suggested donation of $2 (donated to the Philippine Disaster Relief Efforts as voted on by the Oak HIlls students) plus 2 cans of food per runner (donated to the Beaverton Elks Pantry). 

A bunch of turkeys running and walking the streets of Oak Hills -- sounds like a great way to give thanks together, Flyers!

Where in the World is Athlone, Ireland?

The miles are adding up for the Findley Flyers!  Did you know, combined with the Dragon Dash, 798 kids ran a total of 4,575 miles around the track so far this year? That is all the way from Portland, Oregon to Athlone, Ireland.  See the Flyers in action in the October Assembly Slideshow. 

You can find your child’s name on the Findley Flyer bulletin board at school, click here for the October report, or ask how far they have run.  Another fun question to ask your child is how they feel when they run/walk around the track?  What does it feel like after they are done?  We are interested in their answer!

October Grade Level Statistics:

Kindergarten:  344.5 miles

1^st Grade:  518.75 miles

2^nd Grade:  529.75 miles

3^rd Grade:  499 miles

4^th Grade:  613 miles

5^th Grade:  447.5 miles

That’s 2,953 miles in the Month of October!

Rain Plan for Thursday mornings

If raining or there is a soggy track, we will be under the cover running, walking, skipping, and jumping our laps, so no one gets wet and we still have fun exercising together.  5 minutes running = 2 laps  5 minutes walking = 1 lap

Flyers at the KIDz Fun Run (this Sunday!)

Let's put our training laps to the test and run for a purpose!  Ask your child if they would like to participate in the KIDZ Fun Run on Saturday November 3^rd from 9:00am-11:00am at our very own Findley Track.  Net proceeds are donated to Elliott Muhs.  Check out this link to learn more:  www.kidzontherun.blogspot.com.
